About the Captain

I started sailing in fourth grade with my friend Susan, whose family owned the Blue Dolphin in Bayfield, Wisconsin. Her father, Captain Dave, taught me to sail and made me fall in love with sailing on the Big Lake.

I pursued sailing every chance I could for the rest of my life, and had opportunities to be on the water in amazing places all over the world: Indonesia, Hawaii, Australia, Zanzibar, Portugal, and Bermuda.

For me sailing is the perfect balance between science, art, community, and the natural world. When we go out on Lake Superior everyone is "present" and "in their bodies" in a familiar/unfamiliar way. Everyone willing gets their hands on the lines and shapes the experience we have together.
